Red

Dragon's Tooth, Trefethen Family Vineyards 2019

Trefethen Estate

Being Welsh and a fan of Trefethen's Cabernet Sauvignon we're very pleased to see that Trefethen has a wine devoted to its roots. This is a very nice rounded wine with bold red fruit notes, blended using Malbec, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Sauvignon and aged in French oak, this is a perfect example of a nice big Napa red that has won numerous high scores from critics.

Trefethen's Notes:

THE RED DRAGON on the label of our Dragon's Tooth Napa Valley Red Wine originated in ancient British legend where two dragons—one red, one white—fight in the sky. The boy Merlin watches them with King Vortigern and when the red prevails, driving the white across the sea, the boy foretells the coming of King Arthur who will lead Vortigern's people, the Welsh, to victory over the invading Saxons.

CATHERINE TREFETHEN,

our First Lady was Welsh. Her loves for wine, gardens and family were the inspiration for our estate in Napa Valley's Oak Knoll District, and though she has departed, her spirit is still felt, especially in the cool foggy mornings when mist envelops the vineyard and our minds tend towards whimsical imaginings.

Production area
Planted in gravelly soils in the northwestern quadrant of the stunning Trefethen estate vineyards, Located in the Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley. These well-drained soils combined with limited yields produce Cabernet Sauvignon fruit with bright and complex flavours.

Varieties
45% Malbec, 35% Petit Verdot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon

Description
An alluring blend presents aromas of blackberry and cracked pepper, with hints of cinnamon and other baking spices. The palate features flavours of red currant and wood smoke leading to a long, elegant finish that would disarm the fiercest of dragons. Malbec brings colour and diversity of fruit; Petit Verdot and Cabernet Sauvignon bring darker fruit and robust structure

Food Pairings
This blend shines with leaner cuts of meat like flank, sirloin and skirt steak. Also, serve with roasted lamb or pork roast drizzled with a dark fruit reduction sauce.
